The Admission Process for International Applicants

This information is important to you, if...

  • You do not have German nationality, and German is not your native language,

  • You do not have the German "Abitur" (the German university entrance qualification), and

  • You would like to be enrolled as a degree student at DHBW Mosbach.

The Two Requirements for DHBW Admission:

In order to be admitted at the DHBW Mosbach, two prerequisites have to be met:

1. It has to be verified that you are formally eligible for university studies in Germany.

2. You need a three-year contract of employment with a training company cooperating with DHBW Mosbach.  More information on this topic can be found in the section Ihr Ausbildungsunternehmen ("Your Training Company") in the German-language part of our website.

Your Admission at DHBW Mosbach:

In order to be admitted for studies at the DHBW (German applicants usually submit their "Abitur", the secondary school diploma qualifying for university admission... more information in German on this can be found under Frequently Asked Questions in the section "Zulassung und Prüfungen"), you need to send in several certificates and documents proving that you are eligible for studies at DHBW - both regarding your previous general education and your German language skills.  These documents have to be evaluated by the Central Coordination Office (Zentrale Auslandskoordinationsstelle) in the DHBW headquarter in Stuttgart.

On the DHBW headquarter website you can find detailed information about this evaluation and admission process:
www.dhbw.de/information-in-english/international

The most important information can also be found in an information leaflet for international applicants.  In addition to this there are detailed instructions about the required quality of notarizations and translations of the necessary documents in a separate information sheet.  Both are available as downloads.

www.dhbw.de/information-in-english/international

Die wichtigsten Punkte sind auch in einem Merkblatt zusammengefasst. Zusätzlich dazu sind die Richtlinien für Beglaubigungen und Übersetzungen in einer Übersicht dargestellt. Beides ist als Download verfügbar.

If you are a Chinese applicant, there is one additional step to take:

You have to hand in your documents at the Akademische Prüfstelle (APS) of the German Embassy in Beijing, an inspection unit for academic documents where your certificates will be evaluated.

After this process is completed and your documents have been approved by the APS, you can turn them in at the DHBW.  More information can be found in our information leaflet.

After your Admission at DHBW Mosbach...

... you might need to apply for a visa:

Depending on your nationality, it might be necessary for you to apply for a student visa at the German embassy or consulate in your home country.

More information about this visa application process including addresses of German embassies all over the world can be found on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.

Once you are in Germany, you need to apply for a residence permit for the time of your studies.  A work permit is not necessary as the practical training periods are an integral part of your studies.

If you are a citizen of the EU, neither visa nor work permit is needed.

... and some fees will be due:

- Tuition fee: 500 Euros per semester
